MMA fighter and former UFC Middleweight champ Evan Tanner was found dead from exposure while on a camping expedition in the Palo Verde, CA mountain area Monday. Apparently he had been planning this trip into the desert for a while, and many of the MMA news sites and forum members had half jokingly reported that he’d die out there, and much to everyone’s dismay it became true.

I just wanted to say thanks to Evan for all the entertaining fights that I’ve had the privilege to watch. He was a excellent fighter who inspired many others, due to his start as a fighter who entered MMA as a self-taught guy who watched instructional videos. I always had much respect for him as a fighter, despite his recent losses. His passing is a true loss for the MMA community and it’s fans. RIP.

UPDATE: Fightlinker posted a good post (from John Hayner who helped Evan start Team Tanner) saying: “Evan would be very happy if people remembered him by doing something unexpectedly nice for someone who is in need.”

Even if you weren’t a fan of his, I’m sure many can appreciate that sentiment. Do something nice for your fellow man without expecting something in return.

Here’s a slideshow of Evan helping a low-income school build a playground they needed.
