Blueprint vs Funkadelic

Oh shit! If there’s anything better than good music it has got to be good FREE music. Last week producer/mc Blueprint released his latest EP “Blueprint vs Funkadelic”. The title leaves little to the imagination. This is another thank you to my influences album much like Yesterday’s New Quintet’s “Stevie” album except, you know… with lyrics. Some of you may recall the Greenhouse Effect EP entitled “Greenhouse Effect vs Radiohead”. Guess who did the production and wrote half the lyrics on that EP? Greenhouse Effect is of course not just Blueprint, but also Fessmana (Greenhouse Effect ain’t the same w/o Inkwell). The vs Radiohead EP was brilliant and I definitely bought that on vinyl (clear green!) as soon as it came out. Nois is likely to recall my repeatedly playing that record at the old spot.

Blueprint vs Funkadelic is an enjoyable EP choc full of samples from P Funk including old interviews of musicians influenced by them such as Ice Cube. Blueprint always brings the heat with his tracks and, although his lyrical style is often very simplistic and liberal rather than fast and complex, I have always enjoyed his mic control. For those of you narcoleptics out there, Columbus Ohio’s Blueprint (Printmatic) has been doing this Hip Hop shit since the 90’s. The first time I heard Bluprint was on the “Weightless B Sides” album and Illogic’s “Got Lyrics” as well as Greenhouse’s “The Up To Speed EP” and I’ve followed his progress since then. The material has gotten better and better. Soul Position (Blueprint & RJD2) was an especially digable project. Weightless has shrunk as a label in the past, but in recent years replenished its size with a few new members. Thank the stars Illogic is still going strong. That dude is my grape drink on the really real.

Go download the EP and support Blueprint. Maybe even buy the CD if you’re a true fan. Check out Weightless’s other artists. I recommend Illogic if you dig spoken word style. His poetry is pretty sick. If you can find a copy or pirate one from your friend, the vs Radiohead joint is a must have. I hope Blueprint decides to press some vinyl copies of vs Funkadelic. I do loves me some vinyl.
