2009 in retrospect, welcoming 2010.

2009-in-retrospect-welcoming-2010

Its New Years Eve, and while I’m in the office right now handling things that need to be done, I realized I do need to take some time to reflect on what 2009 has been for me.

2009 was a tough year. (Probably a serious understatement.) It started off with a bang, Obama became President, and there was plenty of optimism based on the message of “Hope” and “Change”. But then reality set in really quickly, Barack isn’t Superman. (Haven’t given up on him though.)

The economy for one was particularly devastating to many, lost jobs, home foreclosures, and unforeseen expenditures that has prevented many from accomplishing goals.

I thought that 2009 was going to be the year that I can get the clothing line off the ground. My lucky number is 29, hence why I sign off my blog posts with the obligatory “NOIS29″ as my name. Alas, it was not meant to be.

Expenses and priorities had plagued 2009. I saw many other streetwear brands falter, many new startups sputter or put out a ton of poorly thought out products. It seemed like this was the year that so much garbage was put out, just for the sake of capturing a piece of the market. Everything I saw just seemed so uninspiring. Visiting Vegas and going to MAGIC and POOL really sealed it for me. I was very discouraged with the direction this industry was going, and I was afraid to get my designs and ideas out during this time. So since then, I’ve held out.

Oh yes and the state of my football home team the Washington Redskins has been laughable. :( Disarray in the roster, the offensive line, and poor coaching. I hope either Jim Zorn gets his 3rd year to really grow into the HC role, or Bruce Allen finds a truly competent head coach next year.

Coach Zorn, I wish you the best if you don’t come back 2010. Stay Classy.

I can’t say that 2009 was all bad. I have many things to be thankful for.

  • My parents. Their continued hard work is still what affords me to live comfortably, without their help I would be in a much worse situation mentally and financially.
  • My beautiful girlfriend. I think us meeting earlier this year and being together since then has made us both better people.
  • My fellow bloggers. (Get)MadEven particularly, he obviously is the next one with the most blog posts and I hope his contributions continue to pique the interests of our visitors.
  • Me making it to my 30th birthday. Yes, I can complain that I’m an old fart now, and my body has become less cooperative with weight loss and physical fitness, but I still have the mind and optimism of a young buck.
  • Photography. This year I found an artistic outlet that satisfies my need to create art while feeding my gadget addiction.
  • Vinny Cerrato leaving the Redskins organization. :)
  • Also, the day after Christmas, we added 4 new additions to the family. 3 Roborovski Hamsters we’ve named Stevesie, Kingsley (Ned) and Klaus, the trio is now known as Team Zissou.
  • DSC_7059wtmk-small
    Kingsley (Ned) Zissou pictured here

  • Finally the 4th addition is especially dear to me. I grew up with German Shepherds and the death of our last one, Pilot (in fact he’s the logo of Radar/NOIS) was especially hard, and even though Bandit, my miniature long-haired Dachshund will always be my boy, I needed a GSD in my life again. So on the same day that we got Team Zissou, we also brought home a beautiful 11 week old female GSD, Mischa.

So, I am looking forward to 2010 to being a much better year, but I know that it’s going to be a lot of hard work. This blog will see a facelift in the next month. I’ll be working on making it more intuitive, and make it a little bit more than an outlet for me to post the things I find interesting. I WILL put out a product in 2010.

2010 will be a good year, but I think I need to motivate myself to work harder for it to happen, things aren’t just going to fall in my lap.

Happy New Year everyone and be safe!

Project ‘Art Adds”

I recently took a trip to New York to shoot some photography and visit the family, (peep the photos at the jump) so of course I’m kinda bummed to find out what’s going to take place in January.

Taxi2

Usually, while in The City, people’s eyes gravitate towards to advertisements on top of taxis driving by, but during the month of January 2010, you will not see where to cheapest tickets to Avatar are or when’s the next Broadway play.   Instead of advertisements, your eyes will be pleased with ART, from the likes of artists “Ms. Neshat, Mr. Katz and Ms. Ono, three New Yorkers known for work that can read both conceptually and physically in a confined space.”   But don’t expect too much conversation with your driver on these subjects, they just rule the roads and maps.

Merry Christmas to all!

Bandit is enjoying the white Christmas we have here in the DC area.

Maybe myself and my girlfriend will go see Avatar in IMAX 3D tonight, or maybe just chill in. We’ll see.

Package arrived from Japan this morning, and what did I find?

Remember the Evangelion New Era 59Fifty caps?

Yeah, I was particularly interested in the Unit 01 eyes one.

I guess there’s a new Dr.GreenThnumb.   Prepare to recieve a whole lot of “green” gifts  for your household this Christmas.

I recently got an invite from these G&G folks on Myspace, and needless to say, I was interested.    Not only was I fascinated with their choice of design for the logo, but also their drive and inspiration behind this project, WEED.   Now, don’t you think it makes the world go round a lot smoother?

You might want to head over to the myspace page, since they’re currently building their site up, where they have a nice selection of graphic tees; which they classify in groups like classy, munchies, visions, etc.

I don’t even know what the title means, but the content is beast. lol   I may need a translator for all the Culture/Online Magazines I’ve been reading recently, this post being from UrbanLook.

I’ve been pricing entry-level cameras so I can start photographing ever interesting thing crossing my line-of-sight.   So far, the EOS Canon Rebel XS has been the only camera that has caught my attention to the max.    It’s a light weight, kinda bulky piece of photo equipment, and the menu’s kinda complicated, but all in all it seems to be a great buy at retail price aprox. $600, although I’ve found them as low as $456.

So, MOM! I know what I want for Christmas.  Happy Holy Days People. Pce.

Nike 09/10 Lunarlite material shoes

Heya, sorry for the lack of updates. Been busy getting back up to speed with work and such after Thanksgiving. Plus I honestly haven’t had much to post about except for the fact Nike is giving my favorite sole material, “Lunarlite foam” a lot of releases this winter. If you’ve never worn a Lunarlite sole, you don’t know what you’re missing, its like walking on clouds.

NSW x Wood Wood – LunarWood TZ

wood-wood-nike-sportswear-lunarwood-sneakers-1

Nike Sports Wear tapped Danish brand/designers Wood Wood to put this Lunar soled ACG Wildwood out in the great outdoors. Expecting a Mid-December release. They say it’s made for the cold and wet Scandinavian nights. Word.
UPDATE The Wood Wood guys had some cool pics put up, check em out over at Arkitip

Lunar Mariah ND+

nike-lunar-mariah-1

Slated for January 2010 release, the Mariah has already seen a Lunar treatment earlier this 2009 with the Lunar Mariah TZ (using the original Mariah pink, white and blue colorway), but I guess Nike saw that it was worth continuing. We have two more colors here, one that is similar to the first TZ release except the blue and pink are flopped around, and another one in black with green and red highlights.

Nike Harajuku Lunar Glide & Lunaracer

My favorite running shoe to date, the Lunaracer in a crazy Harajuku store exclusive colorway.

And an interesting pink and starry Lunar Glide (I’m guessing its for the ladies):

Both saw an end of November release.

Lunarlite Woven Chukka

nike-lunarlite-woven-chukka-2

Slated for a spring release, we have a casual walking shoe in both orange and green. If they get different color uppers, I may have to jump on this one.

Don’t forget that the Lunaracer+ 2 is on the horizon…
