Yep, I had to be the lame asshole to say that today. It’s so clever and true! *Guffaw, snort, chortle*

Be safe out there kiddies. No idea what kind of mischief/misfortune can happen on New Years.

METHAMPHIBIAN – CUSTOM FIGURES

Filed under: art, design, gadgets, toys — GME @ 9:22 pm

Meth, Meth, Meth!!   That’s all I’ve heard since these new custom figures have dropped on their online store.   The 12-inch figures take on the Meth’s dark theme and are pretty much super-detailed from head to toe.   Keeping it in perspective with the 1/6th scale ratio, each figure comes equipped with a lot of accessories and components made from the finest silk and animal fur, na just playing, only the finest quality of materials available to us in this day and age.   Sources say some models have already sold out, so go to the website and get you some of these figures. via TheHundreds

500

Hi Blog. Welcome back. Hope everyone’s vacation was good, everyone got everything they wanted, ate a lot of food and gained weight.

So this is blog post #500. (with a couple of false starts earlier with post scheduling issues… but if you aren’t reading through an RSS reader… you didn’t need to know that. hahaha.)

Well, I wanted to do something special for post #500, but I really couldn’t come up with a great idea that hasn’t been done before, nor did I have the time this past week really despite the holiday. So instead, I guess I will just write on the state of this blog and Radar/NOIS the company.

I’ve been very hesitant to pull the trigger and actually have a few shirts made. Some contributing factors are lack of funds, my time being focused mostly on my day job, and being involved in a new relationship over the past couple of months. The state of the economy and seeing the direction streetwear in general is going in wasn’t very heartening either. Finally, my motivation had been sapped.

Two weeks ago, I got some good words of encouragement and advice that helped set me back on track a bit (Thank you Ai-chan, Gene) and my recent trip to Tampa helped as well. Getting to talk with our resident bloggers Chimmy and MadEven face to face and see their excitement for this project, and hearing their ideas really pumped me up again. Yesterday, the 3 of us checked out streetwear boutique Renown in Ybor City. Spoke to Ralph there for a minute. Got his perspective, and I was also motivated by seeing him take on something like trying to cultivate streetwear in a place where it is very much at it’s infant stages, in an area thats still very conservative. That really helped me zero in on what I should be focused on.

So… here’s the immediate plan. We’re still on track to release some shirts early 2009. My guess is that we’ll start with a very low run of 3 particular designs with extremely low print runs. (maybe no more than 50 shirts a design. 2 shirts may get 2 colors.) I will start dropping hints of new designs sometime in January.

So anyways, this blog has seen 500 posts now, I’m back from Tampa and we’re back to business as usual. I want to thank our contributors who have taken time out of their busy schedules to help keep content fresh here, and those who have helped contribute early the beginning of this year. This blog really only started out just as an exercise in daily blogging. Hopefully by post 500 we’re starting to see something take shape here. Here’s to another 500 posts, and maybe we’ll have a product ready by then? (Free giveaway or something?) Anyways, looking forward to 2009. Some see adversity, I’m looking for opportunity. 2009, time to shine.

Holiday Break – Blogging to resume Dec. 29th

holiday-break-blogging-to-resume-dec-29th

Yep, just as the title says, it’s time to take a holiday break. This is post 499, with the next being 500. I’ll be working on revising the blog look, (Just got done upgrading to WordPress 2.7 on Friday which fixed a few things on the back end). Anywho, it’ll be business as usual Dec 29th so in the meantime hope everyone has a Merry Xmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, a great Festivus, etc.

BTW… Thank you Redskins for sweeping Philly. It may not be the playoffs, but still a nice Xmas present for Washington DC.

DTA x 7 Union – DTA TODAY Fitted

dta-x-7-union-dta-today-fitted

Sorry guys, no borderline-pr0n posts today. But what did catch my attention was this cap from Rogue Status’ DTA line; they did a 7 Union fitted borrowing the logo of nationally circulated newspaper USA Today. I found this kinda funny, only because the USA Today logo was one of the first recognizable logos in my early childhood, since my dad used to work for the company.

I still remember having this coin bank my dad gave me as a kid, it was shaped as the USA Today Newspaper machine.

I think I may be toning it down on fitteds for a while, but if the economy was a bit more allowing, I would probably splurge on this one for the sake of nostalgia.

This stop-motion puppet movie is a film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novella of the same name. Directed by Henry Selick, who directed The Nightmare Before Christmas. I’m interested in seeing the final product when it hits theatres in 2009. In the meantime, I highly recommend checking out the website to see some of the behind the scenes stuff. It’s absolutely impressive, the work involved creating the puppets.

Outlier Winterweight Hoodie

outlier-winterweight-hoodie

Outlier, a new brand from NYC focused on clothing made for city cyclists, is coming forth with some excellent pieces, slowly but surely. This is the sort of thing that I like seeing from brands. Clean look, high attention to materials, cut and details. Last hoodie that I’ve seen with this kind of attention to detail was when I checked out the NSW shop at 21 Mercer in NYC, the Nike x Loopwheeler hoodies. (I really wanted one but restrained myself from spending money.)

This hoodie is made of Schoeller Dryskin Extreme + 3XDry fabric, water/moisture wicking fabric on the outside to keep you dry, warm fleece on the inside to keep you warm. Raglan sleeves, classic cut, and a hood that can accommodate a helmet, this is one hoodie made for layering. Released as an experimental drop (9 of these hoodies made available in January), full production will be done late next year. $160.00.

I for one am looking forward to something new and fresh from KAWS. While the Dissected Companion is probably my most favorite print/vinyl figure that KAWS has done (especially the day-glo version), I think I can do without this latest release in pillow-form.

If you want one they run ¥4,800 and will be available at OF flagship and select stocklists. Probably will be available from KAWSONE.com when they do their next update.

I’ll hold out and wait for a new art print. C’mon man!

Renown Goods – Tampa

renown-goods-tampa

Tampa has been somewhat of a second home to me as of late, replacing Tokyo as a location most frequented. Not that I prefer Tampa over Tokyo (sheesh), but a high concentration of family in that area and a lack of travel funds for international travel seems to have been dictating my travel plans as of late. I tend to visit Tampa at least 2-3 times a year now.

In the past month a new (and proclaimed first for Tampa) streetwear and sneaker boutique called Renown Goods has popped up in Ybor City (Grand opening was Nov. 22nd).

RENOWN

It seems that both myself and fellow blogger GALLINAFALCO will be down in Tampa/Sarasota for the holidays. Maybe a run out to Ybor City during daylight for some shopping is called for, before a good night of debauchery.

Our fellow bloggers Chimmy and MadEven are Tampa residents, and I gotta be the one to post about this shop?

You boys must be sleepin! If you haven’t checked out this shop yet, you have some homework to do!
