Nashville

Hey all. I’m in Nashville on business. My first time here. Some charming people in this town. Staying at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel by the Grand Ole Opry. (heheh. Gaylord.) Shame I’m no country music fan. Also haven’t seen anybody sporting Titans gear, despite them being the only undefeated team in the NFL as of this writing.

I probably won’t be able to post again until Saturday, hopefully one of our other fellow bloggers can pick up the slack.

Check out the indoor garden atrium in this hotel, literally a few feet away from my room. Indoor waterfall and all.

KAWS AM90 NSW SoHo release vid

Plz excuse the late update, server woes cropped up for a good part of the day. Here’s a vid of people lined up to cop the KAWS AM90 and AM90 Current in NYC last weekend. I was able to get a pair (AM90’s in white) on eBay with not too bad of an inflated price. At least the prices leveled off a bit like I expected. The AM90’s in black (currents) are still selling higher than the whites though.

A few shops in Germany got them in early October, and this past weekend, October 25th they dropped at BABEKUB CITY in Japan, Medicom’s conceptual shop, for club members only. We posted early photos about these here: CLEAN DUNK ES-BEES)

rubitone

Even though this is only a concept design and not a real product, Design heads/DIY’ers should be buying Rubik cubes and breaking out their Pantone color books, Xactos and Goof-Off so they can make their own. The design nerd in me wants one.

Hats off to Ignacio Pilotto for the good work.

Adult Swim x Etnies Jameson

Filed under: Co-labs, Humor, Intertubes, Sneakers, art, design, skateboarding — GME October 26, 2008 @ 10:05 pm

Etnies made the smartest move when it came to collaborating with Adult Swim artist Jacob Escobedo.   These are the second pair of Etnies in which he has blessed his creative genius on.   The Jameson has detailed laser etching on the brown leather upper of Adult Swim characters such as Early Cuyler (Squidbillies), Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake (Aqua Teen Hunger Force.)   With the addition of the blue lacing, this shoe has that pop factor to make it that much more appealing to the eyes.

These just released at In4mation and are open to phone orders.

So as a very big fan of Vans, I had to do some research on their new sneaker collection with Taka Hayashi, especially since they had successes with this designer in the past.   This new collection supports Active’s “Drop Sneakers not Bombs” campaign for 2008.   The Half Cab and the J-Lay Mid will be the selected shoes that sport the campaign’s image.   Look for these exclusive shoes to drop in November.

Futura’s beef with Michael Lau

Comments on a Flickr account give insight on what Futura 2000 thinks about Michael Lau’s “Futura inspired” works.

User metaron1050’s pic of his MINDstyle edition all black Michael Lau Gardener figures, “Womax” and “Future”.

Futura posts as “FUTURADOSMIL” on Flickr

as OBI-WAN KENOBI once said:
NOTHING TO SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG.

are you serious? these are HORRIBLE. don’t get me wrong. I LOVE the work of MICHAEL LAU and the VISUAL world he has created. but this is INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY that MR. LAU has STOLEN.

we have NEVER worked together on any projects and I have NEVER consented to; nor appreciated the FUTURAESQUE figures he has previously created. those PRODUCTS have been completely UNORIGINAL.

on many levels I couldn’t care LESS about any of this. or what MR. LAU does. I am however angered by the fact that my name is associated with this PROJECT.

let me break it down; so all the hommies understand me. PLAGIARISM

More comments can be read on the Flickr page.

I found this quite interesting. Considering that the graffiti/art/streetwear/designer toy community associations are narrowly separated, I’m surprised that Futura and Michael Lau never worked this out.

What is interesting also, is that these figures from Michael Lau, also have Maharishi versions. (orange and olive drab colorway.) And they are released in collab with Maharishi.

Hardy Blechman, the founder of Maharishi, and Michael Lau have a close friendship and collaborate frequently. Maharishi also has a clothing line with Futura, “FHI – Futura Heavy Industries”. You’d think that if Futura and Michael Lau both have a relationship with Maharishi, they’d be able to communicate with each other on this matter.
