With the Burton “B” embroidded on the front panel of the hat and the small logo located on the back section. Shiro to Kuro (白と黒, “White & Black”) is the name of the collaborative effort between Japanese music superstar Shiina Ringo (椎名林檎) and graphic designer Kimura Yutaka (木村豊). Uniqlo’s T-shirt line, UT has picked up on 6 of their shirt creations, set to release Nov. 17, and apparently to help tie in with Shiina Ringo’s current 10th anniversary campaign celebrating her big break in Japanese mainstream music in 1998.
Keeping in line with their collaborative name, they’re releasing women’s shirts based on animals that are (pro dominantly) white and black, using Zebras (tees), Penguins (raglan sleeve) and Dalmatians (turtle neck w/ thumbholes at the cuff) as the subject matter. Uniqlo cheap pricing at 1,990 Yen apiece.
I remember when Shiina Ringo broke out, I was a big fan of her first album Muzai Moratorium (無罪モラトリアム) and enjoyed her second album Shouso Strip (勝訴ストリップ). I think the cute rock chick look in the Koufukuron video, and the sexy nurse getup in Honnou really got my attention. I’m a sucker for her rolled R’s too.
I kinda fell out of Japanese music around the time she halted her solo career to join the band Tokyo Jihen, so I never really followed up what she had been up to since then. Apparently she had her iconic mole (beauty mark as some would call it) removed during this time, and has resumed solo work in 2007.
Writing about her in this blog has given me the desire for that 懐かしい (nostalgic) feeling, so I dug up some of her PVs from the first two albums that I liked a lot.
I wish I could find this one vid I remember seeing of her playing piano arrangements of her songs at the Fuji Rock festival with just strings accompaniment. That was what impressed me and I realized what a talented musician she is. Anyways, 10 years do go by fast don’t they.
Major just dropped this NewEra 59Fifty fitted today, and how fitting (pun intended) that it be on the morning after the Skins beat the Cowboys in Dallas. I like the jersey mesh visor.
